Let's go to Čatež - to celebrate!

This year is a very special year for Terme Čatež!

Out first hotel was buildt in 1925. We would like to celebrate this important milestone, the 100th anniversary of organized tourism with you! On Saturday, June 21st, an unforgettable jubilee event took place in the Summer Thermal Riviera. Watch the video below and relive the unforgettable gathering with us.

Hundredth anniversary

Age is just a number, however with such a number the general expectation would probably be something old, perhaps weak. But we are very much alive and getting healthier every day – due to our thermal water’s healing powers, confirmed to be the best – for a person’s physical and mental well-being. But this is not just a story about water that began more than 220 years ago. This is the story of the first hotel on the Čatež field. So let’s begin…

Chronology

Terme Čatež - then and now

A long, long time ago, when people rode in carriages, when crinolines, men's pocket watches and parasols were a must - people lived much differently than they do today. But despite that, we have a common denominator with our ancestors - concern for health and that irresistible desire to travel and have some time for ourselves. At the beginning of the 19th century, the Attems family owned the 'Čatež field', rich in thermal springs that had been discovered much earlier. The healing effects of the warm thermal water were known far and wide; they have been discussed by many generations and recorded in many written sources.

The First Health Resort

In 1925, the famous Counts Attems decided to create a small health resort for guests. They built a hotel – a building in the recognizable Swiss architectural style, which was initially called the ‘Zdraviliški dom’/ ‘Health Resort’. Sources state that the ‘hotel’ was intended for upper-class and wealthy guests; in 34 rooms with a total of 62 beds, there were 18 ‘pools’ – larger bathtubs – and cabins. A restaurant was built next to the hotel; the wooden building had a bar, kitchen, open terrace, and on the upper floor there were employees’ rooms. Count Attems rented out the restaurant to interested parties. In order to attract even more people, they later built an additional building, the so-called ‘Ljudski dom’/ People’s Home, intended for guests of lesser means, with 14 rooms and 63 beds.

The world-wide recognition of our thermal water

The exceptional characteristics of the thermal water, which ‘cures rheumatism, women's diseases and sciatica’, were ‘introduced to the world’ by the Attems’ – as well as through advertisements in the print media of the time. The entire Attems family themselves visited the place many times and loved it, as is evident from the postcards from that time.

And today?

Today, Terme Čatež is one of the most recognizable names and sought-after locations on the tourist map; anyone, anytime and anywhere can find, book and pay for a ticket or stay at Terme Čatež. The red thread in the form of thermal water is constantly present and is a magnet for visitors - even 100 years later.

Following the example of the first ‘hoteliers’, we at Terme Čatež are aware of the importance of sustainability, respect for nature and its resources. We were the first to use thermal water for the complete heating of our accommodation, and later also of football pitches.
We were the first to actually make the mentality and desire to ‘enjoy’ thermal springs ‘continuously’ – a reality. The iconic Thermal Riviera has ensured the timelessness of the seasons – with incredible attractions and the use of water for numerous entertaining purposes.
